What is a brain map?
This is the most frequently asked question that we receive.
We offer a brief description of what a brain map looks like, and what sort of information it can give you.
Simply put, it’s a recording of brainwave activity.
What are brainwaves?
At the root of all our thoughts, emotions, and behaviors are the communications between neurons within our brains.
Brainwaves occur at various frequencies, with some being quick and others slow.
For example, the “Beta” pattern is our dominant waking frequency and is typically emitted when we are consciously alert. Think concentration, cognition.
“Alpha” is another brainwave pattern that usually occurs when we are in a state of physical and mental relaxation but still aware of the world around us. Think creativity and deep chill.
There’s also “Theta,” which is often associated with daydreaming or feeling very sleepy. It also is associated with creative states. Think meditation, intuition, memory.
Finally, we have “Delta,” which really represents the lowest amount of activity possible. This typically only occurs during sleep and can trigger growth and body healing.
These are not all the brainwaves, but they represent a handful of the ones included in your map.
How is a map done?
An elastic cap with 20 sensors is placed on the head, and the sensors are connected to a recording device.
A special conductive gel is squeezed into each of the 20 sensors in the cap, and you will be instructed to keep your eyes open or closed during the recording.
The results of the map are displayed as Z scores, which represent standard deviations from the mean (a normative population of your age and gender).
Once we have collected enough data, we will go over the map with you. You will receive a detailed explanation of your map.
Many clients find it very validating, and we hope you will, too.
